The Journey to Entrepreneurship
Caroline’s entrepreneurial journey started with inspiration from her grandfather, a serial entrepreneur, and her early career in healthcare strategy. While co-founding the Ventures Arm at MUSC, Caroline realized her passion for startups. This love for entrepreneurial ventures led her to become the COO of The Skin Clique, a medical aesthetics company revolutionizing the future of medicine for women.
“When I started,” Caroline said, “we were a small team generating $1.2 million in revenue. In three years, we scaled it to $15 million.” But the journey wasn’t without challenges. She recalled wearing every hat in the business and juggling an 80-90 hour work week while raising her very young children.
Finding the Solution in EOS
At what felt like her breaking point, a mentor handed Caroline the book Traction by Gino Wickman. “This book changed my life,” Caroline shared. It introduced her to EOS—a simple, actionable framework that helped her create accountability, clarity, and structure.
“EOS took us from chaos to clarity,” Caroline explained. She was even able to take maternity leave without the business falling apart, a testament to the system's effectiveness.
Caroline’s transformative experience with EOS inspired her to share it with others. “I realized my passion was helping other entrepreneurs get everything they want from their businesses,” she said.
What is EOS, and Why Does it Work?
EOS is a set of tools designed to help businesses grow sustainably by focusing on three key areas:
Vision: Ensuring everyone is aligned on where the company is headed.
Traction: Creating discipline and accountability for consistent execution.
Healthy: Building a cohesive and functional leadership team.
Caroline emphasized the importance of putting the right people in the right seats. “They have to get it, want it, and have the capacity to do it,” she said. If team members don’t fit, Caroline helps entrepreneurs navigate those tough conversations. “It’s about caring enough to have candid conversations,” she added.
Challenges and Transformations
One of the most difficult aspects of EOS implementation? Letting go of the wrong people. Caroline explained how titles and ego often complicate leadership structures. “It’s about redefining leadership and creating an accountability chart that matches your company’s needs,” she said.
But the results are worth it. Caroline described helping a frustrated entrepreneur regain control of their business, enabling them to take their first vacation without a single work call. “That’s my goal—to help leaders disconnect and thrive,” she shared.
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
A core part of Caroline’s mission is to support women in business. “Seventy percent of my clients are women-owned businesses,” she said proudly. As a mother of two (soon to be three), Caroline understands the unique challenges women face and is passionate about showing them they can succeed without burning out.
“You can be an entrepreneur and a mom,” she said. “EOS makes that path attainable.”
Caroline’s Advice for Entrepreneurs
For those curious about EOS but not ready to dive in, Caroline recommends starting with the book Traction. “It’s great on Audible and gives you a framework for where to start,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of building a strong support network. “Every entrepreneur needs three things: an executive coach, an operating system, and a peer group,” she advised.
Caroline’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, structure, and a passion for helping others succeed. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, her story is a reminder that chaos can be turned into clarity with the right tools and mindset.
