Pinterest Is a Springboard, Not a Script
Pinterest is often the first stop for couples planning a wedding. It’s visual, endless, and full of ideas. But here’s the truth: it should serve as a springboard, not a script.
When you go searching for the exact wedding you want on Pinterest, what you’re really doing is copying someone else’s celebration. And their story - their priorities, their guests, their choices - will never mirror your own.
Look Beyond Weddings
I encourage couples to step away from wedding-specific boards altogether. Instead, draw inspiration from the unexpected. Think about the spaces that move you - a grand hotel lobby, a tucked-away resort, a favorite boutique, a piece of fashion, even the interiors of a well-designed home.
These environments carry a richness of detail that translates beautifully into event design. A hotel’s textured walls might spark a linen choice. A favorite destination might influence your color palette. A chic fashion editorial could inspire your tablescape.
Home interiors, especially, are a remarkable source of inspiration. They are created with longevity in mind - a layering of textures, colors, and finishes meant to be lived in, not staged for a single photograph. That grounding makes them a natural reference point when designing celebrations that should feel timeless, not trendy.
Why Copying Falls Flat
When you fall in love with a wedding you see on Pinterest, it’s important to remember: that design belonged to a different couple with an entirely different narrative. Trying to replicate it often leads to disappointment, because the magic you saw in their images came from their specific story - not just the flowers or the place settings.
Instead of chasing “the most amazing thing” you find online, shift your focus to what you truly love. What makes you feel at ease? What feels aligned with who you are as a couple? Those answers will always lead to something far more personal and resonant than a copied mood board.
Make It Yours
The best celebrations don’t look like someone else’s Pinterest board. They feel intentional, rooted in your story, and designed with the people you love in mind. Pinterest can spark ideas, but it shouldn’t dictate your vision.
Your wedding deserves to be more than a collection of saved images. It should be the start of a story no one else could tell.
